While I find art therapeutic and cathartic, his is the closest I think I ever really get to outright "vent art." It's a term I first heard from =deidaraart5 they're pieces that are often spurred by anger or sadness resulting from a very specific (and typically private) situation in real life. In my case, it's more irritation and frustration.

My roommate does not get movie trailers, at all. To be fair, she was raised in her family to be very open about things she didn't understand, and to ask questions out loud if that were the case. Trouble is, she has trouble understanding that sometimes the best way to learn the answer to a question is to

SHUT THE HELL UP AND FRICKING WAIT

Seriously, trailers are anywhere from 30 seconds to about 2 minutes, and that is apparently too damn long for her to find out what the trailer is for, let alone take in what's happening during that timespan.

"What movie's this for?" then, "What did that one guy just say?"
"I don't know, I couldn't hear it over you asking what movie this trailer is for!"

... and this happens like damn clockwork. It's gotten to where I hear this conversation play out in my head when any trailer comes on, even when she's not in the room. I don't know why she has this chronic mental block to using her eyes and ears to gather information from which to infer a rational conclusion about what's happening (it's kind of an "all the time" thing, but she's worst with trailers). She's given about every excuse under the sun, my favorite being, "Well, I couldn't tell it was a trailer."

"Really? The rapid-fire editing and voiceover narration didn't tip you off to anything?" The really funny part is that she only enters this "Echo Location" mode when a trailer comes on, so how could she not know what she's looking at? It's like she has a spider-sense for trailers, but doesn't know it.

A lot of this boils down to the fact that she's really just not a movie person. She's a fairly big reader, I'll give her that... even though most of her selections are R.A.Salvatore, but that's not worth elaborating on.

Oy. My mom has the same thing save she really likes watching movies (especially suspenseful horror movies) and do this... WHILE THE MOVIE IS HAPPENING.

Everyone once in a while I just have to go "MOM. The movie will tell you what's happening if you WATCH THE MOVIE." I've basically taken to not really watching the movie when I'm "watching movies with mom" since I only get like... half the movie anyway.

"Why is he stabbin' her?"
"I guess he's the kill, mom."
"But WHO is he?"
"Well, that's what we're here to find out."
