Here Bibliovore [link] started out as something that wouldn't even take up a full page (sharing space with Clearing the Neighborhood) and ended up taking four pages. Just like the C:Lice, these guys were just way too fun to make.

At first, they were all just going to be running away, but then I got the idea to have the one on the far right actually pulling a piece of parchment away from the page, hence his tails being in front of him, like he's trying to turn around. Hence, the queue came to be, which made me think of the SCVs or Probes from StarCraft. I think it helps make them more "plausible" as creatures, ones with an actual pecking order or hierarchy.

Interesting (and probably very obvious) photography tip. This photo was a huge pain to get because of a struggle with the white balance. As you can see, it's a bit greenish-yellow, and the black posterboard is a bit washed out. That's because I had set my camera to spot metering instead of "multi" or "full frame" so it would use whatever was dead-center as its point of reference, which is never all that accurate. To make matters worse, I made the mistake of taking the white balance reading off the center of the black posterboard before setting up the book. I spent a lot of time in post trying to fix the colors, and this is the best I could really do; the original was way, way worse. So, for future reference, don't use the spot setting for your metering and always have your subject present when you set your white balance.
